Health and Safety Policy for Man with Van Wembley Park
Man with Van Wembley Park is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our removals and transport activities. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety in all aspects of our man and van and removal services.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and environmental impact arising from our operations. We aim to identify, control and where possible eliminate health and safety risks associated with lifting, loading, transport, access to premises and working in and around vehicles.
We will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and industry best practice relating to removal and transport operations, and will regularly review our procedures to ensure they remain effective and appropriate as our business develops.
Management Responsibilities
Management at Man with Van Wembley Park has overall responsibility for implementing this Health and Safety Policy and ensuring that adequate resources are made available for its effective delivery. This includes providing suitable vehicles, equipment, training and supervision, as well as clear procedures for planning and carrying out removal work safely.
Management will ensure that risk assessments are carried out for typical removal and transport tasks, and that appropriate control measures are implemented and communicated to staff. Management will also review any incidents or near misses and take action to prevent recurrence.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees and contractors working for Man with Van Wembley Park share responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others who may be affected by their actions. Staff are required to:
Follow the companys health and safety procedures, safe systems of work and instructions given by supervisors.
Use vehicles, equipment and protective clothing correctly and only for their intended purpose.
Report hazards, near misses, accidents or damage to vehicles, equipment or property at the earliest opportunity.
Refrain from any behaviour that could compromise safety, including working under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Cooperate fully with training, audits, inspections and any investigation following an incident.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
We will carry out and maintain risk assessments for our core activities, including lifting and carrying furniture, loading and unloading vehicles, securing loads, driving, working at different customer locations and operating in domestic and commercial properties.
Safe working practices will be developed from these assessments and will cover, as a minimum:
Manual handling techniques to minimise the risk of strains, sprains and musculoskeletal injury.
Use of trolleys, moving equipment, blankets, straps and other aids to reduce physical effort and protect property.
Safe loading patterns, weight distribution and load securing within vans to prevent movement during transit.
Access to premises, including stairs, narrow corridors, lifts and outdoor pathways, with attention to trip, slip and fall risks.
Procedures for working in challenging environments, such as limited parking, busy roadsides or shared entrances.
Vehicles and Equipment Safety
All vehicles used in our removal operations will be maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition. Regular checks will be carried out on brakes, tyres, lights, securing points and load areas. Defects will be reported immediately and vehicles removed from service where safety may be compromised.
Removal equipment, including removal blankets, straps, trolleys, ramps and other tools, will be inspected, maintained and replaced as necessary to ensure they remain safe and effective. Only equipment approved by the company may be used on jobs.
Training, Information and Supervision
Man with Van Wembley Park will provide appropriate health and safety training to all employees, proportionate to their role and responsibilities. This may include induction training, manual handling, load securing, safe driving practices, hazard awareness and customer property protection.
Employees will receive clear instructions and information about the tasks they are required to perform, the risks involved and the control measures in place. Supervisors will monitor working practices and provide guidance and correction where standards are not being met.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
Our teams work at a range of locations, including homes, apartment buildings, offices and storage facilities. We recognise our duty to protect customers, neighbours, building users and the general public from risks arising from our operations.
Where reasonably practicable, we will:
Plan access routes and loading areas to reduce congestion and trip hazards.
Use signage or verbal warnings to alert people to moving items, open vehicle doors and potential obstacles.
Avoid blocking fire exits, walkways or access for emergency services.
Take care when moving large or heavy items through shared or public areas.
Accidents, Incidents and First Aid
All accidents, incidents, injuries and near misses related to our activities must be reported to management as soon as possible. Reports will be recorded, investigated and used to improve our procedures and prevent similar events.
Where required, appropriate first aid provisions will be available, and staff will be informed about how to obtain assistance in the event of an injury. Emergency procedures will be communicated, and employees will be instructed to stop work and seek help if a situation appears unsafe.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes in operations, legislation or industry guidance. We will monitor performance through feedback from staff and customers, incident reports, vehicle and equipment checks, and informal site observations.
Man with Van Wembley Park is committed to ongoing improvement in health and safety standards and to fostering a culture where safety is considered an integral part of delivering high quality removal and man and van services.
